Database Changes

It's the end of June and you know what that means...time for database changes!

  • Academic Search Premier has been upgraded to Academic Search Complete. Academic Search Complete includes more than 5,300 full-text periodicals, including 4,400 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 9,300 journals.
  • English Short Title Catalog database from RLG has been replaced by the free version from the British Library.
  • CINAHL's search interface has been modified to make best use of the thesaurus and limit options and make the search process more intuitive.
  • Clinical Pharmacology has been replaced by Lexi-PALS drug content. This information can be accessed directly in the Health Source Consumer and Nursing/Academic databases.
  • Gongwer News Service, providing coverage of Ohio state government, has been redesigned. Remember, Gonger's is one of the few databases where we have to use OhioLINK's proxy for off-campus access instead of the the OPAL proxy server.
  • Handbook of Latin American Studies from RLG has been replaced by HLAS Online and HLAS Web from the Library of Congress.
  • Inside Information Plus from RLG has been discontinued. Similar content can be found in ArticleFirst.
  • LexisNexis Academic has been redesigned and now includes Company Dossier.

If you are using LexisNexis off-campus and are asked for a user name and password, simply hit your browser's back button to the OPAL Database Remote Authentication Page and authenticate again. We've noticed that LexisNexis sometimes doesn't authenticate on the first try, but will on a second attempt. We believe this situation will resolve itself in July, as LexisNexis continues transitioning from the old to new URL.
Please contact Andrew Whitis if you have any questions about these changes.

Hat tip to Ohio University Libraries News blog for identifying RLG alternatives.

All Hail Muskingum is currently on display in the lobby. This display includes photographs and other items from the College's archives. In addition, copies of the Commencement programs for 1957, 1967, 1977, and 1987 are available next to the display for remembering commencement speakers and "lost" friends.

Campus Evolution is on display inside the building in the flat display near the reference desk. This display chronicles the evolution of campus from the 1930s to the present.
