Library Databases: Additions and Changes for 2005-2006

The Library would like to inform you of some changes to our electronic resources that took place during the summer. You can access and learn more about the individual databases listed below, by visiting the Database page on the Library's web site.

The following databases were added by OhioLINK:

  • American National Biography: A biographical resource on more than 18,000 people from all eras who have influenced and shaped American history and culture.
  • Kent State Shootings, Oral Histories: A collection of 69 oral histories related to the May 4, 1970 shootings at Kent State University.
  • LearningExpress Library: Online, interactive practice tests, career building tools, and writing aids.
  • SocINDEX: Index, abstracts, and full text for publications in sociology with abstracts for more than 590 "core" coverage journals dating back to 1895.
  • World Data Analyst: Detailed statistical comparisons of countries around the world.

The following databases were added by Muskingum College Library:

  • History E-Books: An online collection of over 1,000 books of high quality in the field of history.
  • NAXOS Music Library: A comprehensive collection of online classical music, offering over 85,000 tracks.
  • PsyCRITIQUES (will be released by the vendor later in the semester)

The following databases were changed:

  • AMICO Library changed names to The ART Collection. Images from museums no longer participating have been removed.
  • CINAHL is now available on the same search platform as Academic Search Premier.
  • ISI Web of Knowledge (Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index, and Science Citation Index Expanded) was upgraded from v4.3 to v7.0. This latest version allows for the creation of user accounts to track saved searches and citation alerts and the ability to sort and analyze citation data.
  • MLA International Bibliography and MLA Directory of Periodicals is now available on the same search platform as Academic Search Premier.
  • OSearch, a new search interface for many OhioLINK databases, was implemented in August. This was primarily an update of the page design, but some features were added to improve the manipulation of retrieved search sets.

The following databases were cancelled by OhioLINK:

  • A Matter of Fact
  • Sociological Abstracts: OhioLINK still owns and is providing access to the data from 1963 to June 2005. SocINDEX replaces Sociological Abstracts going forward.
